Birth drawingSuffering & Birth

"There is, in my experience of birthing five times and receiving thousands of babies into the world, a big difference between the challenging strength of childbirth contractions/waves/ rushes and suffering.
Suffering happens when mothers are not supported, not well nourished, not respected and not loved within the context of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Please remember: Love is the nutrient that causes our cells to obtain the nutrition we need when we eat, drink and live."

(Robin Lim, excerpted from "When Pregnancy Goes South: Keeping Birth Gentle," Midwifery Today, Issue 113)
