Attacked Societal Attack Mothers are regularly attacked by sexist, patriarchal society for public or extended breastfeeding. They are even threatened with social services or accused of child molestation. This is obviously unacceptable. #normalizebreastfeeding Attack by Modern Women Even many apparently intelligent and feminist women in the 2020s are attacking breastfeeding, claiming that "Breast is best" is not true (e.g. here). These women want women to be able to use formula without guilt. The slogan they proclaim is "Fed is best". But this is simply not true. The truth is that "Breast is best". The truth is that formula-fed or non-breastmilk-fed is the final resort - after breastmilk, after wet nurses. The truth is that fed is merely survival - only breast is best. To put a breastmilk substitute like formula on the same level as the magic potion called breastmilk is a false balance. If you truly cannot breastfeed, surely you/we need to be asking where is the free and widespread and easily accessible breastmilk supply from highly valued wet nurses? So, these modern women need to be investigating why they have been forced into a capitalist system where motherhood and the ways of Mother Nature are so peripheral and undervalued. So, the story is about dismantling white supremacist capitalist patriarchy. So, the slogan "Fed is best" only bolsters the evils of this white supremacist capitalist patriarchy, allowing it to continue its desecration of Mother Earth. And so, where is the support system, the sisterhood of women, the community of wise old women, the valued and plentiful supply of wet nurses?? Surely it is time to demand and create a world where "Breast is best" stirs up zero guilt, zero pressure? Normalise breastfeeding again - as it has been the highly successful norm for hundreds of thousands of years - and see once more whether the slogan "Breast is best" resonates for women!  The Bureau of Wet Nurses in Paris, France was created in 1769.
