VI - The Lovers

Themes

Traditionally The Lovers indicates a love affair with a trial or choice. There may be a love triangle or a conflict with a third force (e.g. career).

Love is such a powerful force in evolution. Love can overpower all rules, limitations and worn-out patterns. The snake casts off its skin, ready for a new phase of life. These quotes from Rumi:-

"Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray."
"Reason is powerless in the expression of love."

Other themes:-

The search for the Beloved, attracting and marrying the Inner/Higher Self.
Any conflict between that search and the natural need for a physical partner.
The resolution of that conflict - between sacred and earthly love. Or any such fusion or reconciliation.
The heart needs to be central in your life = compassion, empathy, intuition.
Collectively, humanity needs to learn to choose to Love, to adopt a Culture of Love.

Comparisons

The Lover or youthful ego consciousness must disentangle himself from the deadly fascination of the Terrible Mother, an aspect of The Empress. The Lover rescues his soul, his own true love, and heroically becomes fully involved in life.

The challenge of The Lovers is to integrate the spiritual values of The Hierophant - in love, in life, with others.
