Notes & Quotes

The Major Arcana represent the divine world.
They are archetypes in pictorial-symbolic form.
The Major Arcana is a story of psycho-spiritual initiation or development.

Top Row of Seven Cards (I/II/III/IV/V/VI/VII) = Realm of the Gods.
Second Row of Seven Cards (VIII/IX/X/XI/XII/XIII/XIV) = Realm of Earthly Reality and Ego Consciousness.
Third Row of Seven Cards (XV/XVI/XVII/XVIII/XIX/XX/XXI) = Realm of Heavenly Illumination and Self-Realisation.

"Fools are Wise men in disguise. Magicians are the Guardians of Time. A Priestess holds the Key of Cosmic Law. The Empress encompasses the Cosmos. The Emperor is both Son and Lord. The Priest is the Gateway to Silence. Lovers hold the potential of mankind. A Chariot goes furthest when pulled by dreams. Look for Strength in a seed of corn. The Hermit must one day move on and up. The Wheel will always come full circle. Justice has few friends. The Hanged Man will always be alone. Death and the Empress are one. Temperance is gained through experience and mistakes. The Devil can be a mirror or a prism. The Tower of the personality should never be too high! The Sun is the Earth's gardener. Judgement can never be avoided. There are many Worlds, each one might have been." (Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki)

References

I compiled the hyperlinked descriptions of the 22 Major Arcana from notes I made in the 1980s/1990s. At that time, I did not strongly reference my notes. The sources are listed here. Any Jungian references are most likely from Jung and Tarot: An Archetypal Journey (Sallie Nichols, 1980). It is not intended to be comprehensive. I have tried to keep it as simple as possible.
