Themes

A time to attune to feminine and natural and spiritual cycles.
A time for the indirect or curved path.
A time of cyclic growth as we tend to our destiny within the rhythms of the Cosmos.
Not time for the masculine, linear, direct path - and stop with the planet-destroying, cancerous, never-ending growth of the scam called capitalism!

Like anything, The Moon has a higher and lower meaning.
Madness and crime are associated with the moon.
Because the moon casts a hazy, shadowy atmosphere, things are distorted.

Esoteric science states that the dark/far/unknown side of the moon is a reservoir of all of humanity's evil thoughts, feelings and acts. There is recorded all our abuse, animal cruelty, colonialism, genocide, negativity, paedophilia, racism, slavery, torture, etc.
Meanwhile, on the personal spiritual path there are many dangers:-
  • Abandonment of the Way, a fall back into materialism.
  • Abused by crazy wisdom teachers.
  • Brainwashed by cults and gurus.
  • Delusions of grandeur, of spiritual importance.
  • Distraction by past lives, by supernatural powers (siddhis), etc.
  • Fall into black magic.
  • Fear of our own light (see Marianne Williamson quote below).
  • Lack of groundedness.
  • Madness.
  • Possession by demons.
  • Sucked into conspiracy theories.
The Moon warns of all this.
Yet the moon's higher aspect also gives the solution.
First, it reflects the light of the sun, suggesting that we remain true to what we learned in The Star, to our Higher Self, to our high ideal. Remain centred in Spirit and pure of heart to endure and rise above the ever-changing phantasmagoria.
Second, along with the stars, the sun and the Earth, it is one of the greatest jewels in the human universe. It is an ethereal, mysterious beauty. It resembles a giant pearl. And so it suggests the Way of the Pearl. Like the pearl oyster, we can take anything that vexes us (a grit) and over time add layer upon layer of pearl material - until one day, the beautiful pearl is complete.

Comparisons

The Moon has an affinity with the sea/ocean - they both display waxing and waning.
And the ocean is a symbol for all of God's creation.
So, The Fool - a drop of water in the sea/ocean - in The Moon, senses the
cyclicity and hugeness of the Cosmos. There is an invisible universe to discover and explore. The Fool is on the way to being the entire ocean in a drop.

The Magician, The Devil and The Moon all touch on the possibility of black magic. A pure, luminous, virtuous life will protect us.

The Hanged Man and The Devil involves shadow work. The Moon too. Collectively, we need to acknowledge that vast reservoir of human evil on the dark/far/unknown side of the moon. Otherwise history repeats itself. Fascism killed millions in World War Two and yet we now see it again in Trumpism and Israel
's genocide of Gaza. We need to see the evil, admit the evil, own the evil, remember the evil, rebalance and repair, purify.

The Star and The Moon take place in darkness. Both point to awe and mystery. It is all so vast and mysterious and beautiful. Connect to your awe!

If The Star was the seed of a new life, The Moon is the gestation or pregnancy. The Sun will see all that collective spiritual potential born!

Notes & Quotes

"And the Moon said to me,
My darling, you do not have to be whole in order to shine.”"
(Seen on the internet)

"Energy moves in cycles, circles, spirals, vortexes, whirls, pulsations, waves, and rhythms—rarely if ever in simple straight lines."
(Starhawk, The Earth Path: Grounding Your Spirit in the Rhythms of Nature)

"Everybody knows a straight line is the fastest way to reach your destination. But in some day-to-day situations, it is better to take the curved path - that is to say, do not immediately start telling others, ‘Here I come, let me carry out my projects!’ Begin your journey in areas where you will not encounter any obstacles. Also, since not all opportunities are equally favourable, wait for the right moment to act. If you want to accomplish your projects, it is best to be understanding, patient, and flexible instead of imposing yourself at once. This is what we call taking the curved path."
(O.M. Aïvanhov, Sparks of Light on Our Path, p.125)

"It is sometimes difficult to operate the third eye [chakra] in bright sunlight. Usually, we all become more aware in darkness. The level of sensitivity goes up. The moon itself has an effect on the third eye, and people feel more open to its influence when the third eye is open and unveiled." (Lilla Bek, Third Eye Chakra, track #2, 0m16s)

"Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray." (Rumi)

"Meditate. Live purely. Be quiet. Do your work with mastery. Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds. Shine." (Buddhist quote)

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
(Marianne Williamson)

"Species have evolved to exist in a seasonal cycle. If that cycle is breaking down, those species will break down as well. We know it's a real risk we'll lose huge chunks of nature due to climate impacts." (Kathryn Brown, director of climate change and evidence at the Wildlife Trusts, quoted at BBC, posted and accessed 17 August 2025)

"The moon, star of the night, rules over the waters – pure, crystalline water as well as polluted water. This is why it is the star of both white and black magic. Initiates have studied these two aspects, pure and impure, benevolent and malevolent. In Greek mythology, they were personified by the goddess Diana (or Artemis), called the chaste Diana, and the goddess Hecate, goddess of hell. The hidden face of the moon, the dark cone, has the property of absorbing the evil perpetrated on earth; for thoughts and feelings travel and the thoughts and feelings of those whose inspiration is evil are drawn to the dark cone. It is from this region that sorcerers draw the dark entities that torment human beings and lead them astray, and it is also from this region that they draw the evil elements they use in their spells and rites. As for the other side of the moon, it is exposed to the purifying influence of the sun.
If you learn to concentrate on the upper regions of the moon, you purify yourselves. To receive some help in this exercise, you can hold a piece of silver in your hand, for just as the sun has affinities with fire and gold, the moon has an affinity with water and silver. You can also connect to Archangel Gabriel, who is the Archangel of the moon, just as Archangel Mikhaёl is the Archangel of the sun."
(O.M. Aïvanhov)

"Truth has nothing to do with words. Truth can be likened to the bright moon in the sky. Words, in this case, can be likened to a finger. The finger can point to the moon’s location. However, the finger is not the moon. To look at the moon, it is necessary to gaze beyond the finger." (Sixth Patriarch Huineng)
